Early learning

Extensive Outdoor play

Flexible plans

Qualified caring staff

We follow the Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum which focuses on learning through play. Research shows child-led learning, which is adult guided, is the most effective way of helping a child to develop. Although we have a structure for learning based on long term, medium and short term planning, we view our plans as a rough guide, subject to the children’s interests and their individual learning goals. The whole nursery follows a teaching plan with ideas for monthly and weekly themes/topics e.g.

  • Monthly theme: Journeys

  • Weekly theme: Where can I go?

  • Letter/Phonic: A

  • Shape: Square

  • Number: 2

  • Colour: Red

  • Spanish word: Donde? (Which means, ‘Where?’ in English)

  • French word: Ou? (Which means, ‘Where?’ in English)

  • Makaton sign: Where?

  • Event: Bring your Mum/Grandma/Auntie/Female Carer to nursery day

Each room leader plans daily and weekly activities that tie into the nursery themes. Activities are focused on the individuals within their teaching/care group. The 7 areas of learning set out in the Early Years Foundation Stage are:

The prime areas

  • Communication and language

  • Physical development

  • Personal, social and emotional development.

The Specific areas

  • Literacy

  • Mathematics

  • Understanding the world

  • Expressive arts and design
